Mediation Programs
Community Mediation
Everyone deserves respectful, non-judgmental support during challenging situations. The Dayton Mediation Center provides an environment to help people feel heard and supported while finding their way through conflicts with neighbors, family members, co-workers, or businesses.
People can talk to each other here. Everyone has a voice. And with support, people gain new insights of themselves and the other person. With this clearer understanding there is an opportunity to improve relationships and make different decisions.
Parenting/Visitation Mediation
The Dayton Mediation Center works with unmarried or separated parents to provide mediation services geared towards working through a parenting agreement. Individuals may be court-referred or self-referred.

Mediating your parenting plan offers several benefits to parties, including:
-
Confidentiality - Mediation is privileged and confidential and mediators cannot be called to court to testify
-
Confidence - Your attorneys may still provide you with legal advice if you wish
-
Control - You control the process, not the court or your attorneys
-
Communication - Mediation can help improve communication between you and your child’s other parent, helping you avoid future conflicts
Landlord/Tenant Mediation
Mediation is an option for a variety of landlord/tenant disputes, and the Dayton Mediation Center works with the Dayton Municipal Court and within the City of Dayton to provide mediation services to renters and tenants. The Dayton Mediation Center does not provide rental assistance.

At mediation, landlords and tenants can create a court-approved plan that works for everyone, agree on a move-out date or negotiate a rent payment plan, and restore communication and cooperation. Going through mediation can help parties avoid further court costs, or getting an eviction judgement.

Small Claims Mediation
The Dayton Mediation Center works with the Dayton Municipal Court to provide mediation services to individuals going through the Small Claims process. If you are going to trial, contact us to learn how we can help.

At mediation, individuals can create a court-approved plan that works for everyone, agree on a monetary amount and negotiate a payment plan, and restore communication and cooperation.
Benefits for plaintiffs include getting paid without going through collection proceedings, easily converting an agreement to a judgment if agreement is broken, and avoiding further court costs, trials, and appeals.
Benefits for defendants include avoiding a judgment on your credit report, creating a payment plan that works for the defendant, and potentially having a case dismissed if agreement is fulfilled.*
*Defendant must submit dismissal to credit bureaus

Juvenile Diversion Program
The Dayton Mediation Center partners with the Montgomery County Juvenile Court to divert a variety of offenses away from the formal court system for low-level or first time offenders. If the defendant and the complainant agree to participate in mediation and reach an agreement, the case is dismissed by the Juvenile Court with no further action taken against the juvenile offender. That charge will not be on the young person’s record.
For charges where there is no “victim,” such as Jaywalking, young people may be referred to a Community Impact Panel (CIP). This is a one hour conversation with members of the community trained to have a direct, non-judgemental conversation about how to make positive, pro-social choices.
